Fayetteville State: Built for the Moment
Few programs in the CIAA can match the history or dominance of Fayetteville State bowling. The Broncos are chasing their fourth consecutive CIAA Championship and seventh overall title since the program's inception in 2001.
From 2001–09, Fayetteville State claimed seven Western Division titles in eight seasons, setting the foundation for what has become a conference standard. Since the CIAA adopted Northern/Southern divisional alignment in 2010, the Broncos have captured the Southern Division crown every season, excluding the COVID year when no season was held.
That tradition has continued this season behind one of the most accomplished lineups in the conference.
All-CIAA Honors Highlight Fayetteville State Dominance
Fayetteville State's excellence was reflected in the postseason awards and All-CIAA Team selections, with the Broncos placing five bowlers among the top seven in the conference.
Paige Rockwell, a senior, led the CIAA with a 191.37 average, earning CIAA Bowler of the Year honors for the second time after previously winning the award during the 2023–24 season. This makes the third consecutive year a bowler from Fayetteville State has received this honor. Rockwell was joined near the top by sophomore Nicole Sarko, who finished second in the league with a 189.52 average.
Senior Ericka Reed ranked fourth at 188.06, while sophomore Janari Aiken placed fifth with a 185.67 average. Freshman Hannah Cunningham rounded out Fayetteville State's top performers, finishing seventh overall with a 179.89 average and earning CIAA Rookie of the Year honors.

This makes the tenth time Coach of the Year honors have been bestowed upon Henderson. He has received this accolade in 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2023.Â
Top Bowlers to Watch
Fayetteville State boasts multiple bowlers ranked among the CIAA's best, led by Rockwell, whose consistency at the front of the lineup sets the tone in both traditional and baker formats.
Sarko brings precision and poise in high-pressure frames, while Reed and Aiken provide scoring depth and versatility that has made the Broncos difficult to match throughout the season. Cunningham's emergence has added another layer to a lineup capable of adjusting seamlessly as formats and lane conditions change.
Keys to the Championship
For Fayetteville State, maintaining composure and avoiding complacency will be essential. The Broncos' depth allows flexibility, but execution—especially on difficult lane transitions—will dictate how smoothly they navigate the bracket.
Virginia Union's key lies in disrupting rhythm, forcing Fayetteville State into chase mode, and extending matches long enough to create opportunities late.
The Bottom Line
Fayetteville State arrives in Mechanicsville not just as the top seed, but as the program everyone is chasing. With an unblemished CIAA record, elite individual talent, and a championship pedigree unmatched in the conference, the Broncos have positioned themselves for another historic run.
If Fayetteville State bowls to its standard, the weekend could once again end with the Broncos standing atop the CIAA podium—adding another chapter to a legacy more than two decades in the making.
