BALTIMORE, MD -- In a closely contested game, Bluefield State overcame Fayetteville State with a final score of 71-65 at CFG Bank Arena. This win brought Bluefield State's record to 19-10 (10-6 CIAA), while Fayetteville State fell to 22-8 (12-4 CIAA).
Shainen Carter led Bluefield State with 17 points, while Jordan Hinds contributed a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Terrell Williams also had a strong performance with 13 points and 11 rebounds. For Fayetteville State, Myles Pierre was the top scorer with 17 points. Caleb Simmons recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Ezekiel Cannedy added 13 points and three steals.
Fayetteville State started strong, taking a 19-18 lead midway through the first half. However, Bluefield State regained control and led 32-28 at halftime. In the second half, Bluefield State extended their lead to 63-52. Despite a late 6-0 run by Fayetteville State, Bluefield State held on for the win. Fayetteville State capitalized on seven Bluefield State turnovers, scoring 11 points off those turnovers.
Fayetteville State's bench contributed 27 points, and the team hit nine three-pointers. They also dominated the offensive glass with 22 offensive rebounds, leading to 17 second-chance points. It was a hard-fought game with notable performances from both teams.
