The Fayetteville State University golf team finished in third place at the CIAA Northern Division Tournament, held at the Brickshire Golf Course in Providence Forge, Virginia. The team scored a total of 914 over 72 holes, with senior
Brandon Jones, a native of Sanford, NC, leading the Broncos with a seventh-place ranking on the leaderboard, scoring 227 (+11).
The team's performance improved significantly over the course of the tournament, with an opening performance of 18-over (306) followed by the best round of the entire tournament with a score of 293 (+5). This improvement and two-round total of 599 placed the Broncos at second. However, the team dropped to third place after shooting a 315 (+27) for the final round. Virginia Union won the Northern Division title with an 898 (297, 294, 307) while Livingstone's 904 (304, 296, 304) came in second.
Jones finished the first two rounds with 73 (one-over-par) cards, and he knocked down three birdies during the first 18 holes to counter four bogeys. In the second round, he had one birdie to two bogeys. He finished the final round with an 81 (+9).
Sophomore
Jack McCarthy, from Winston-Salem, NC, ranked eighth overall with a score of 228 (+12) as an individual.
Freshman
Logan Atkins, from Dunn, NC, finished tied at ninth with a total score of 229 (+13) following rounds of 76, 75, and 78.
Shaun Wixson finished 15th (234, +18), and
Juan Lopez was 18th (235, +19).
