Clemmons, NC - The Fayetteville State golf program won the 2024 CIAA Southern Division Tournament by three strokes, beating Virginia Union at the Tanglewood Championship Course in Clemmons, NC.
Brandon Jones won the Low Medalist Award for his three-round performance of 214 (+4).
The Broncos shot a 299 in the final round for a total of 892, while VUU finished with 895 and Livingstone with 901. Virginia State was fourth with 936, and Bluefield State finished fifth with 950.
Logan Atkins played a crucial role for Fayetteville State with a 73 (+3) card in the first round to tie for second place on the leaderboard. Jones ranked fourth (74) but jumped to the top with a 67 round at the end of 36 holes. Atkins dropped to third with a 69 round. In the final round, Virginia Union's Travon Willis attempted to overthrow the standings with an Even-70 round, but Jones' 73 gave him the two-stroke (214-216) advantage and award.
Logan Atkins' 75-card helped him to third with a total of 217.
Juan Lopez ranked tied for 14th with a 231 card (83, 72, 76), while
Jack McCarthy finished 17th (233; 82-76-75) and
Shaun Wixson tied-24th (242; 89-73-80).
Fayetteville State ranked third after the first round with a score of 312, behind Livingstone (304) and Virginia Union (305). The Broncos improved their standing with a second-round performance of 281 for an updated 593 card. The VUU Panthers shot a 288 to tie with 18 holes left in competition. LC dropped to third place with 609. The Broncos will participate in the CIAA North Division Tournament from April 5 – 6 in Providence Forge, Va.
