Fayetteville State falls 72-47 to Gannon in NCAA Sweet Sixteen


ERIE, PA --
The Fayetteville State women's basketball team fell 72-47 to the Gannon Golden Knights (35-2 overall) on Tuesday in the NCAA Sweet Sixteen and Atlantic Region Championship game.

Aniylah Bryant, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, led the Broncos (29-3 overall) with six points and five steals. Morgan Graham also tacked on six points, three steals and three blocks and Talia Trotter, also an All-Tournament Team performer, helped out with 12 points.

How It Happened

After falling behind 6-2, Fayetteville State went on a 6-0 run with 7:43 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Trotter, to take an 8-6 lead. The Broncos then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 14-11.

The Broncos continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 34-26 halftime deficit.

Fayetteville State's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Broncos faced a 55-37 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Fayetteville State played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 11 points in the paint.

Gannon kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 63-37 advantage before Fayetteville State went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Keayna McLaughlin's layup, to shrink the deficit to 63-43 with 6:56 to go in the contest. Gannon responded and outscored the Broncos the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 72-47.  The Golden Knights shot 31.6% from beyond the arc making 13-of-36 three-pointers.
