RALEIGH, NC --The Fayetteville State men's basketball team shot 50 percent from deep on the way to a 72-65 win against the Saint Augustine's Falcons on the road Saturday.
The Broncos (16-12, 11-7) had three players score in double figures, led by Kaleb Coleman, who had 25 points and six rebounds. Caleb Simmons tacked on 18 points and six rebounds and Tairell Fletcher helped out with 13 points and four assists.
The Fayetteville State defense held Saint Augustine's shooters to only 39.3 percent from the field, including 30 percent from three-point range.
How It Happened
After jumping out to an 11-10 advantage, Fayetteville State went on a 7-0 run with 13:00 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Coleman, to increase its lead to 18-10. The Broncos then added three points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 35-24 advantage. Fayetteville State took advantage of four offensive rebounds to score seven second chance points out of 35 total in the period
Fayetteville State kept its lead intact before going on a 7-0 run, finished off by Simmons' jumper, to grow the lead to 50-42 with 10:12 to go in the contest. The Falcons narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Broncos still cruised the rest of the way for the 72-65 win.
