ORANGEBURG, SC -- The Broncos (23-2, 16-1) had three players score in double figures, led by Aniylah Bryant, who had 23 points and five steals. Keayna McLaughlin tacked on 15 points and Nyah Wilkins helped out with 10 points and two steals off the bench.
Led by Morgan Graham's two offensive rebounds, Fayetteville State did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 11 boards that resulted in 14 second-chance points.
Fayetteville State forced 25 Claflin turnovers. The Broncos turned those takeaways into 22 points on the offensive end of the floor. Bryant's five steals led the way for Fayetteville State.
How It Happened
Fayetteville State kept it close in the first quarter but entered the second frame down 12-10.
Claflin kept adding to that lead, building a 26-19 advantage before Fayetteville State went on a 9-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Amina Miles, to take a 28-26 lead, a score that would hold until halftime.
Claflin then took a 31-28 lead following intermission before Fayetteville State went on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a basket from McLaughlin, to grab a 33-31 lead with 8:10 to go in the third. Claflin responded to seize a 50-45 lead entering the fourth quarter. Fayetteville State knocked down three three-pointers in the quarter to score nine of its 17 total points.
Fayetteville State narrowed its deficit to 58-54 before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Talia Trotter's layup, to seize a 60-58 lead with 3:54 to go in the fourth. The Panthers then fought back to even things up at 64-64 and send the game to overtime.
Claflin then snagged a 71-68 advantage with 1:25 left in the first overtime before Fayetteville State responded by going on a 5-0 run to seize a 73-71 lead with two seconds to go in the period. The Broncos kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 75-71 win.
