Trotter, Graham combine to score 32, Fayetteville State falls to Augusta 56-52

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Talia Trotter and Morgan Graham combined to score 32 total points, but Fayetteville State (2-2 overall) fell to the Augusta (4-0) Jaguars 56-52 at home Saturday.
 
Trotter led with 19 points, Graham tacked on 13 and two blocks, and Nyah Wilkins added seven. The trio combined to account for 75 percent of the Broncos' points.
 
Fayetteville State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 23-11 at the end of the first quarter. The Broncos cut the Jaguars' lead to 30-19 before going on a 7-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Trotter, to narrow its deficit to 30-26, a score that would hold until halftime.
 
Fayetteville State and Augusta put up 11 points in the third quarter, keeping the deficit even at 41-37 entering the fourth. Fayetteville State took advantage of eight Augusta turnovers in the quarter, scoring three points off of takeaways.

Augusta kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 51-41 advantage before Fayetteville State went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Alivia Evans' three, to shrink the deficit to 51-47 with 4:12 to go in the contest. The Broncos were unable to cut further into the deficit by the end of the game, losing 56-52.
 
Talia Trotter, Morgan Graham, and Nyah Wilkins combined to account for 75 percent of the Broncos' points.
 
FSU increased their defensive intensity, forcing Augusta into 22 turnovers throughout the game. This pressure was particularly effective in the third and fourth quarters, where they capitalized on Augusta's mistakes to score points off turnovers.
 
The Broncos focused on crashing the offensive boards, grabbing 12 offensive rebounds. This effort led to 13 second-chance points, which helped them stay in the game despite their shooting struggles.
 
For Augusta, Mone Florence was the standout player. She scored 21 points, shooting 5-of-14 from the field, including 4-of-8 from three-point range, and 7-of-9 from the free-throw line. Florence also contributed with three rebounds, seven assists, and two steals, making her a key factor in Augusta's victory.
 
Additionally, Autumn Phillips made a significant impact with her all-around performance. She grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds, dished out nine assists, and added five points, three steals, and a block. Her efforts on both ends of the court were crucial in maintaining Augusta's lead throughout the game.
 
Fayetteville State will travel to 3-1 UNC Pembroke on Wednesday, November 20 for a 5 p.m. slate.
