Fayetteville State gets 22 bench points in 65-44 win over Davis & Elkins

ELKINS, WV --The Fayetteville State women's basketball team got a 22-point performance from the bench on the way to a 65-44 win over the Davis & Elkins Senators on the road Saturday.

The Broncos (10-1) had three players score in double figures, led by Morgan Graham, who had a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Aniylah Bryant tacked on 12 points, six rebounds and six steals and Amina Miles helped out with 10 points.

Fayetteville State collected 53 rebounds in Saturday's game compared to Davis & Elkins' 18, led by Graham's 14 boards. The Broncos also cleaned up the offensive glass, turning 27 rebounds into 21 second-chance points.

Fayetteville State did a great job disrupting Davis & Elkins shots in the contest, coming away with five blocks. Graham's three rejections led the way individually for the Broncos.

LaChazity Shaver led Davis & Elkins (2-8) with 13 points.

How It Happened

Fayetteville State started out the scoring by going on a 7-0 run, culminating in a three from Bryant, to take an early lead with 7:17 left in the first quarter. The Broncos then added four points to that lead by the end of the period and entered the quarter-break with a 23-12 advantage. Fayetteville State did most of its first-quarter damage in the paint, scoring 12 of its 23 points close to the basket.

Fayetteville State kept its first-quarter lead intact before going on a 7-0 run starting at the 1:05 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Graham, to increase its lead to 37-23, a score that would hold until halftime. Fayetteville State forced five Davis & Elkins turnovers in the period and turned them into seven points.

After intermission, Fayetteville State held on to its advantage and owned a 49-38 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Fayetteville State played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 12 points in the paint.

Fayetteville State kept widening that lead, expanding it to 58-44 before going on a 7-0 run to grow the lead to 65-44 with two seconds to go in the contest, a score that would hold for the rest of the game. Fayetteville State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring eight of its 16 points in the paint.
