FAYETTEVILLE, NC --The Fayetteville State men's basketball team got a 25-point performance from the bench on the way to an 80-57 victory against the Methodist Monarchs at home Sunday.
The Broncos (5-5) had two players score in double figures, led by Tairell Fletcher, who had 22 points. Kaleb Coleman tacked on 14 points and seven rebounds and D'Marco Baucum added two points, eight rebounds and three blocks.
Fayetteville State out-rebounded Methodist 45-27 in Sunday's game, paced by Baucum's eight boards. The Broncos also grabbed 15 offensive rebounds and scored 17 second chance points.
Fayetteville State did a great job disrupting Methodist shots in the contest, coming away with seven blocks. Baucum's three rejections led the way individually for the Broncos.
How It Happened
After falling behind 4-3, Fayetteville State went on an 11-0 run with 16:54 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Khalil Ridges, to take a 14-4 lead. The Broncos then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 38-29 advantage. Fayetteville State got out and ran in the period, scoring eight points on the break.
Fayetteville State kept its lead intact before going on an 8-0 run, finished off by Fletcher's jumper, to grow the lead to 51-36 with 14:03 to go in the contest. The Broncos kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 80-57 win. Fayetteville State took care of business in the paint, recording 24 of its 42 points in the lane.
