Fayetteville State shoots 52.9 percent from deep, loses to UNC-Pembroke 81-77

PEMBROKE, NC --The Fayetteville State men's basketball team shot 52.9 percent from three-point range, but fell to the North Carolina-Pembroke Braves 81-77 on the road Tuesday.

The Broncos (2-4) had five players score in double figures, led by Myles Pierre, who had 21 points. Tyler Foster added 18 points off of the bench and Tairell Fletcher chipped in as well with 12 points.

Led by D'Marco Baucum's three offensive rebounds, Fayetteville State did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 11 boards that resulted in 10-second chance points.

How It Happened

Fayetteville State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 46-36 heading into halftime.

North Carolina-Pembroke kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 48-36 advantage before Fayetteville State went on a 7-0 run, finished off by Pierre's jumper, to shrink the deficit to 48-43 with 17:37 to go in the contest. The Broncos kept their comeback going, holding the lead with 00:44 left to play, but North Carolina-Pembroke managed to hold on for the 81-77 win. Fayetteville State got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 19 of its 41 total points.
