RICHMOND, VA - The Fayetteville State Golf team placed second in the River City Collegiate Classic held in Richmond, Virginia. Sophomore
Juan Lopez was awarded the Low Medalist Award as the event leader by just 1 stroke over the runner-up, 149. After the first round at the Country Club of Richmond, the Broncos landed in second place with a scorecard of 306, just behind Virginia Union (301). On the second day at Belmont Country Club, the team maintained their second-place finish with a score of 316, while Livingstone (621; 310, 311) edged ahead to take first place by 1 shot.
Livingstone is led by Andre Springs, a member of the Fayetteville State 1975 Golf team that was just inducted into the FSU Athletic Hall of Fame during Homecoming weekend.
FSU (622 final score) finished above Virginia Union (626; 301, 325), Virginia State (654; 331, 323), Johnson C. Smith (658; 324, 334), and Winston-Salem State (681; 326, 355).
Lopez, a business administration major from Madrid, Spain, scored 3 birdies over the two rounds. He was one-over par (75) on the first round, but managed to break an even par (74) on the second round, giving him a 149 score.
Teammates
Logan Atkins and Shaun Wixon ranked 7th and 9th place respectively, landing in the top 10.
