FAYETTEVILLE, North Carolina --Behind an impressive defensive performance that held the Johnson C. Smith ground attack to 79 rushing yards, Fayetteville State knocked off the Golden Bulls 14-7 at home Saturday afternoon for the Broncos Homecoming game.
The Broncos improved to 6-2 on the year and 6-0 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association play, while the Golden Bulls fell to 5-3 and 4-2.
Caden Davis totaled 52 yards to lead the Broncos' ground attack and added two touchdowns in the game, picking up 5.8 yards per carry along the way. Derrick Alston Jr. also tacked on 22 yards on the ground.
Kameron King reeled in two catches for 12 yards.
Anthony Binyard paced the Fayetteville State defensive effort, totaling nine tackles, 3.0 TFL, and two sacks. Theniias Moss added one interception and Quran Blount had three tackles, 2.0 TFL, and one sack in the win.
The Broncos won the turnover battle in Saturday's game, forcing one turnover while avoiding any giveways.
Defensively, Fayetteville State did an impressive job restricting the Johnson C. Smith offensive attack, holding the Golden Bulls to 192 total yards. The Broncos kept Johnson C. Smith under 150 yards on both the ground and through the air, allowing 113 passing and 79 rushing yards. The Broncos defense lived in Johnson C. Smith's backfield all game, collecting four sacks and 11 total tackles for loss.

Fayetteville State took a 7-0 lead over Johnson C. Smith after scoring the game's first points with 2:56 left in the first quarter. Another Broncos score then expanded the lead to 14-0. Fayetteville State didn't score again in the game and Johnson C. Smith added seven more points to finish off the scoring.
