Broncos defeat Johnson C. Smith 3-1 after dropping first set

CHARLOTTE, NC --The Fayetteville State volleyball team fired back after dropping set one to secure a 3-1 win (19-25, 25-19, 25-12, 25-17) over the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls Thursday on the road at Brayboy Gym.

The win moved the Broncos' record to 13-11 overall and 7-2 in CIAA play. Johnson C. Smith drops to 4-14 and 3-10 in the conference.

The Broncos offense was paced by Casandra Watson, who finished with 10 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .286, and by Christina Pratcher, who had 10 while hitting .300. got 15 digs from Aliyah Brown to lead them defensively.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Broncos fell behind early, dropping a tough first set 25-19. Fayetteville State trailed by as many as eight points as Johnson C. Smith never surrendered the lead in a set that was knotted up zero times before the Golden Bulls took control.

SET 2 | Fayetteville State evened the match at 1-1 with a 25-19 set-two win. The Broncos never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 12-11 in a set that showcased three lead changes before Fayetteville State took over the lead.

SET 3 | Fayetteville State went ahead 2-1 in the match after defeating the Golden Bulls in the third set. The Broncos grabbed control of the set early when the score was 6-5 and never looked back to win 25-12. Fayetteville State ended on a strong note, opening up its biggest lead of the stanza, 13 points, to finish off the set.

SET 4 | Fayetteville State earned a match win with a 25-17 fourth-set victory, winning their third set in a row. The Broncos took the lead for good at 9-8 in a set that showcased three lead changes before the Broncos took over the lead. Fayetteville State also supplemented their offense with three aces in the set.
