Worthy, Foster combine to score 44, Fayetteville State falls to Virginia Union 73-61

RICHMOND, VA --Cress Worthy and Tyler Foster combined to score 44 total points - 72.1 percent of Fayetteville State's points - but the Broncos fell to the Virginia Union Panthers 73-61 on the road Saturday.

The Broncos (8-9, 3-2) had two players score in double figures, led by Worthy, who had 25 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals. Foster tacked on 19 points and two steals and D'Marco Baucum added six points and seven rebounds.

Virginia Union improved to 12-4 overall with the season sweep over Fayetteville State. The Panthers are 2-2 in conference play. Kaleaf Tate led VUU with 22 points while Robert Osborne followed with 13. Raemaad Wright led the boards with 12 rebounds.

The Fayetteville State defense caused its share of mistakes in Saturday's game, forcing 17 Virginia Union turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 14 points on the other end of the floor. Foster's two steals led the way individually for the Broncos.

How It Happened

Fayetteville State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 37-21 heading into halftime.

Virginia Union kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 62-45 advantage before Fayetteville State went on a 7-0 run to shrink the deficit to 62-52 with 3:35 to go in the contest. Virginia Union responded and outscored the Broncos the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 73-61. Fayetteville State made the most of nine offensive rebounds to tack on 11 second chance points out of 40 total in the period.
