Fayetteville State overcomes slow start in slim 44-43 victory against Johnson C. Smith

FAYETTEVILLE, NC --The Fayetteville State men's basketball team went into the halftime break trailing Johnson C. Smith 23-15, but rallied from the deficit to defeat the Golden Bulls 44-43 at home Saturday.

Kaleb Coleman recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Broncos (10-9, 5-2). Cress Worthy also tacked on seven points, eight rebounds and two steals and Tyler Foster helped out with nine points and six rebounds.

Fayetteville State out-rebounded Johnson C. Smith 45-39 in Saturday's game, paced by Coleman's 10 boards. The Broncos also pulled down 13 offensive rebounds and scored eight second chance points.

Fayetteville State's defense held Johnson C. Smith to only 20 percent shooting from beyond the arc and 26.6 percent from the field.

How It Happened

Fayetteville State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 23-15 heading into halftime.

Fayetteville State narrowed its deficit to 35-28 before going on an 8-0 run, finished off by Foster's three, to seize a 36-35 lead with 9:53 to go in the contest. The Broncos held onto that lead for the rest of the game for the 44-43 win. Fayetteville State shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting five shots from deep to score 15 of its 29 points.
