Fayetteville State Broncos Seeded Eighth for Atlantic Region Tournament

Fayetteville, NC – The Fayetteville State men's basketball program convened in Capel Arena last night for a late-night spread of Old Chicago's pizza and wings and the NCAA Division II Men's Committee announcement of the 64 teams that will compete in the 2022 NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship Tournament Bracket. Twenty-three conferences were awarded automatic qualification and the remaining 41 teams were selected at large by the committee.
 
As the CIAA Champion, Fayetteville State (21-8 overall) received the eighth seed in the Atlantic Region Championship and will face host Indiana Pa (29-2) in the Kovalchick Convention & Athletic Complex in Indiana, Pa. The first round of the tournament will be played on Saturday, March 12th with the Broncos game time against the Crimson Hawks. The semifinals will follow on Sunday, March 13 and the regional championship will be Tuesday, March 15. All times are to be determined.
 
The No. 4/5 first-round matchup will be Mercyhurst vs. Millersville. Other first-round matchups include No. 2 West Liberty vs. No. 7 West Virginia State and No. 3 Cal U vs. No. 6 Fairmont State.
 
Fayetteville State will be making its first return to regional play since 1993 when Jeff Capel and FSU hosted the South Atlantic Regional Tournament.

Four-time All-CIAA basketball performer and FSU Hall of Famer Kenny Haywood donated the meal for all in attendance.
 
Six of the eight regional tournaments, consisting of eight teams each, will be conducted March 12, 13, and 15 while the other two regional tournaments also consisting of eight teams will be conducted March 11, 12, and 14. The eight regional champions will advance to the quarterfinals in conjunction with the 2022 NCAA Division II Men's Elite Eight. The quarterfinal, semifinal, and championship games will be conducted at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana, on March 22, 24, and 26.
