Raleigh, NC February 19, 2022 – Saint Augustine's celebrated a little more than its seniors following the regular-season finale in Emory Gymnasium. The Falcons (10-14 overall, 6-10 CIAA) defeated Fayetteville State 85-77, which drops the Broncos down to 10-6 in conference play and 13-11 overall.
Imani Elliot had another season-best 24 points to lead the effort.
Rasheka Simmons added 20 points and
Aniylah Bryant scored 15.
The Broncos trailed by three (18-15) after the first quarter but dropped behind by 14 (36-22) before a 40-30 halftime score.
FSU responded well after intermission in the third quarter by outscoring the Falcons 21-14. The Broncos were down by one (52-51) with a little over a minute left.
In the fourth quarter, Elliott drained a three with 3:20 left to help FSU within three (71-68) before the game slipped away.
Lauren Banks led Saint Augustine's with 17 points. Jada Swafford had 15 and Milequa Eason scored 13 along with Bre'cha Byrd. Taniyah Greene had a dozen points.
Fayetteville State had a total of 21 turnovers that led to 31 Falcon points. Eleven of the turnovers were unforced.
The Broncos will await the CIAA Tournament release of the brackets on Sunday.
