GREENWOOD, SC --The Fayetteville State men's basketball team got a 32-point performance from the bench on the way to a 66-63 victory over the Lander Bearcats on the road Saturday.
The Broncos (5-6 overall) had three players score in double figures, led by Tyler Foster, who had 18 points and seven rebounds. Jacob Crutchfield added 13 points and Kaleb Coleman chipped in as well with 11 points and two steals.
The Fayetteville State offense was very productive from downtown, knocking down 10 threes on 23 attempts. Coleman was the most prolific shooter for the Broncos, draining two treys in the contest.
The Fayetteville State defense was a problem in Saturday's game, forcing 15 Lander turnovers while committing 14. Those takeaways turned into 13 points on the other end of the floor. Coleman's two steals led the way individually for the Broncos.
How It Happened
After falling behind 28-9, Fayetteville State went on a 10-0 run with 5:51 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Foster, to narrow its deficit to 28-19. The Broncos continued to close the gap, cutting the Lander lead to 30-24 by the end of the first half.
Fayetteville State narrowed its deficit to 44-41 before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Marcus Elliott's jumper, to seize a 47-44 lead with 9:58 to go in the contest. The Broncos held onto that lead for the rest of the game for the 66-63 win. Fayetteville State shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting six shots from deep to score 18 of its 42 points.
