SHIPPENSBURG, PA -- Aniylah Bryant and Armina Miles combined to score 28 total points, but the Broncos fell to the Kutztown (PA) Golden Bears 62-44 at Heiges Field House Saturday.
Bryant led the Broncos (0-2 overall) with 20 points and three steals. Rasheka Simmons also tacked on four points and six steals and Miles helped out with eight points and three blocks from the bench.
Fayetteville State's defense held Kutztown (PA) to only 34.4 percent shooting from the field, including 25 percent from beyond the arc.
How It Happened
Fayetteville State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 21-8 at the end of the first quarter.
Fayetteville State kept the Golden Bears from increasing their lead before going on a 5-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Simmons, to narrow its deficit to 25-17. The Broncos continued to chip away, reducing the Kutztown (PA) lead to 30-23 heading into the break.
Fayetteville State's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Broncos faced a 47-37 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Fayetteville State played well near the basket, scoring 10 of its 14 points in the paint.
Fayetteville State could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 62-44. Fayetteville State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring four of its seven points in the paint.
