SALISBURY, NC --The Fayetteville State defense totaled eight sacks to help the Broncos to a 44-7 win over Livingstone on the road Saturday afternoon during the Blue Bears Homecoming.
FSU improved to 5-2 on the year and 4-1 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association play, while the LC fell to 2-5 and 1-4.
True freshman Demari Daniels led Fayetteville State's passing attack with 112 yards through the air, tossing two touchdowns to Barry Elliott without throwing an interception. The signal caller also added 52 yards on the ground.
Redshirt freshman quarterback Caden Davis led all FSU rushers with 90 yards in the contest, picking up 12.9 yards per carry. Davis had a gross of 101 yards.  Derrick Alston, Jr. also added 74 yards and one touchdown on the ground, averaging 6.7 yards per carry.
Barry Elliott reeled in two catches for 88 yards and two scores.
Enoch Howard paced the Fayetteville State defensive effort, collecting one interception. Kentrell Caldwell added eight tackles, 0.5 tackles for a loss, and one interception. Gerald Simpson had nine tackles, 1.5 TFL, and one recovered fumble for a 30-yard touchdown in the win.
The Broncos won the turnover battle in Saturday's game, forcing three turnovers while coughing the ball up two times, with Fayetteville State turning those takeaways into 14 points. FSU also had an outstanding day offensively, racking up 510 total yards, 309 on the ground and 201 through the air, while averaging 8.6 yards per play and out-gaining Livingstone. The Fayetteville State offense did a good job extending drives, converting on 50 percent of third-down attempts. The Broncos also went 1-for-1 on fourth down.
Fayetteville State's defense limited Livingstone's offense, allowing 168 total yards. FSU kept Livingstone under 150 yards on both the ground and through the air, allowing 112 passing and 56 rushing yards. The Broncos pestered the Livingstone passing attack all game long, registering eight sacks and recording two interceptions.
How It Happened
Fayetteville State scored first with 5:00 left in the first quarter to take a 7-0 lead. FSU then extended their lead to 14-0 with another score. Both touchdowns were from the Daniels-Elliott connection.
Fayetteville State kept Livingstone off the scoreboard and increased its lead to 21-0 with 14:06 left in the second quarter.The Broncos continued to expand their lead after Livingstone narrowed the gap to 21-7, scoring again to go up 28-7.
Fayetteville State continued to build its advantage, scoring again with 13:14 left in the third quarter to go on top 31-7. FSU kept scoring, tacking on a touchdown to increase their advantage to 38-7.
Fayetteville State held LC off the board before scoring for a final time with 2:48 left in the fourth quarter, extending their lead to 44-7.
