Fayetteville, NC (Saturday, January 29, 2022) – The Fayetteville State women's basketball team has improved its win streak to three after defeating Saint Augustine's 61-44 in Capel Arena. Facing a five-game schedule in nine days, FSU lost to WSSU on Sunday but defeated Virginia Union on Tuesday, Claflin on Thursday, and the Falcons today. FSU will host Lincoln (Pa.) in a makeup game Monday at 5:30 pm in Capel Arena.
The victory gives FSU a 9-8 record and 6-3 CIAA standing.
Rasheka Simmons had a double-double in the game with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Joining her with a dozen points are
Imani Elliott and
Danica Lucas, who both had season highs.
Aniylah Bryant added 10 points and 6 rebounds.
Vernisha Robin led the game for Saint Augustine's (6-11, 2-7 CIAA) with 16 points. Lauren Banks added 12 while Raquel Cassidy had 10 rebounds and 7 points.
Fayetteville State scored 34 fastbreak points with 20 steals. The 34 turnovers by Saint Augustine's led to 29 points off turnovers for the Broncos.
The Broncos held a slight 26-22 lead at half-time and improved with a 22-7 third quarter.
