FSU Volleyball Sweeps Livingstone 3-0 on the Road

Salisbury, NC – Fayetteville State Volleyball traveled to Salisbury for a CIAA Southern Division matchup against Blue Bears of Livingstone and made a quick return home with a 3-0 sweep (25-8, 25-19, 25-20). The Broncos improve to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference and division. Bailey Robinson and Aeyana Mattress led the match with eight kills. Mattress also had 13 digs. Jaida Bynum had 15 assists and 2 aces.
 
Livingstone's newly hired head coach and FSU alumna Ericka Charleston drops to 2-2 overall and 0-2 in CIAA play. Taylor Grant scored eight kills and Dekiya Wilson-Thomas had five aces for the Blue Bears.
 
The Broncos jumped to an early 11-3 lead in the first set and over-powered LC in the 25-8 victory.  Livingstone responded with a 4-0 comeback effort in the second set until FSU tied the set at five.  The Blue Bears even held on to trail 18-16 latter play.  After four LC errors and a kill by Mattress and Macaiah Honable, FSU ended the set 25-19 with Honable's third kill of the night.
 
Livingstone showed tenacity in the final set hang close behind Fayetteville State until the 18-17 mark.  Jaida Bynum's kill and service ace increased the one-point lead to 20-17. A pair of LC attack errors improved the cushion to 22-17.  A 3-0 run by the Blue Bears closed the gap to 22-20, but a solo block by Da'Nesha Miller, a service ace by Casandra Watson and a match-point kill by Miller would seal the sweep.  Miller finished with 4 kills, 2 aces, and 2 blocks. 
 
Fayetteville State will participate in the first portion of the CIAA Roundup hosted by Winston-Salem State on Saturday and Sunday. The Broncos will take on Elizabeth City State, who are on an 8-match win streak, Lincoln Pa, and Virginia State.
