Wheeling, WV -- Fayetteville State (23-7 overall) ended the 2021 volleyball season with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, and 25-18) loss to No. 1 Wheeling (28-5 overall) in the first round of the NCA DII Atlantic Region Tournament in Wheeling, West Virginia.

Kalee Vanderhorst led the effort with 11 kills for 11.5 points.
Casandra Watson followed with nine and
Da'Nesha Miller finished with seven.

Miller and
Jaida Bynum put up 16 set assists and
Jasmine Jacinto had 18 digs. The Broncos had a total of 35 kills for the match and a hitting percentage of 11.8% with 22 attack errors. FSU had a match-high 18 total blocks over Wheeling's 3. Ashley Bradley had five block-assists and Miller put back two solo and two assisted blocks. Fayetteville State also had more digs at 53 (48).

Kayla Bekier led the Cardinals with 11 kills with Lexi Smith and Tylah Yeomans adding nine. Wheeling had a match total of 44 kills with 18 errors for a percentage of 21.5%.

FSU dropped the first set 25-19 with a total of 11 kills. FSU had nine attack errors and a hitting percentage of 4.8%. Wheeling had a total of 11 kills with six errors and a percentage of 17.8%.

FSU improved on its hitting percentage in the second set with 12.8%. The Broncos finished the set with 14 kills but had 9 errors. Wheeling had 15 kills and 4 attack errors for 29.7%.

The third set saw the Broncos hit 20.7% with ten kills and four errors. Unfortunately, the attacks dropped down to 29 attempts compared to 42 in the first set and 39 in the second.

Wheeling will advance to the second round to take on #4 Edinboro.
