Casandra Watson racked up a total of 11 kills from 22 attacks in Fayetteville State's 3-0 sweep of Livingstone College in the Felton J. Capel Arena. The Broncos improve to 13-5 overall, 9-2 in CIAA play, and 5-0 divisionally with set victories of 25-18, 25-14, and 25-11. The Blue Bears struggle with an 11-match streak at 2-11, 0-11, and 0-5.
Watson matched her season high of 11 kills for the third time. She previously marked 11 in the previous game against Claflin and Chowan.
Livingstone opened the first set with an 8-4 lead and held on until the tied score of 12. After a 5-0 Bronco run, the Blue Bears trailed 17-13 and hung on at the 18-16 score. Following a couple kills by
Macaiah Honable and two Blue Bear attack errors, Watson would score two of her five kills to end the set at 25-18.
Fayetteville State put away the Blue Bears 25-14 in the second set. The Broncos led 8-3 early and 16-7 after a 6-1 run. The dominance of FSU capped the set following a 7-3 scoring span.
The final set was all Fayetteville State, who finished with 14 kills and 4 services aces.
Jaida Bynum led the service charge with three aces in a row to make it four for the match. She also led the match with 20 assists. Watson collected her solo ace in the set.
Xiamana Spikes had a total of 9 kills for the match and 4 blocks.
Da'Nesha Miller finished with 7 kills, 12 assists, 7 digs, and two blocks.
Fayetteville State will travel to Shippensburg, Pa on Saturday, October 23
rd for a regional match against Raiders of Shippensburg University.
