FSU Softball Drops Double-header to Davis & Elkins

Fayetteville, NC – Davis & Elkins (5-4 overall) visited Lamon Street Park in Fayetteville on Sunday (Feb. 16) and took two games away from Fayetteville State (5-3 overall) by scores of 7-2 and 13-0.

The Senators struck first in the opening game following an errant throw on a failed pickoff of a stolen base that led to the first run. A couple batters later, Honesty Holt hit a two-run double to right-center field to give Davis & Elkins a 3-0 lead after two innings. D&E extended the lead to 4-0 on a wild pitch in the fourth.

Fayetteville State scored in the bottom of the fourth when an error by the shortstop on Grace Vincent's at bat allowed Mikayla Jackson to score.

Davis & Elkins tacked on three more runs in the sixth before the Broncos Cameron McCutchen hit a single down the left line for the final RBI of the game.

Fayetteville State had a total of eight hits for the game, with McCutchen leading the way at 2-for-3. Braynka Brown (3-1 pitching) faced two batters in the fourth inning before Ashlyn Zook took over the circle.

In the second game, Olivia Smith hit a grand slam homer through center field to give the Senators a 5-0 lead after the first inning and D&E added two more runs in the second inning. After another run in the fourth, Davis & Elkins' lead would surge to 13-0 in the wake of a five-run outing in the fifth inning with five hits and two Bronco fielding errors.

Brown had the only hit for the Broncos with 16 at bats.

Fayetteville State will participate in the CIAA vs. SIAC Tournament Challenge on Friday, February 21st through February 23rd in Sumter, South Carolina.
