Fayetteville, NC – Fayetteville State men's basketball still has a long road to travel for any hopes of a school's second CIAA title. The last time the Broncos won a basketball championship was in 1973.

Prior to the game, the current team received a few inspirational words from attending members of the championship team, who was inducted into the FSU Athletics Hall of Fame earlier in a ceremonial brunch.
The road to a second title was extended when FSU (19-7 overall; 8-7 CIAA) lost a 53-52 nail-bitter to Winston-Salem State (15-9, 12-3) on ASPiRE TV in Capel Arena's largest attended game this season.
Jalen Seegars, who scored a game-high 21 points put-up a buzzer-beater that rimmed out; deflating a disappointed Bronco contingent. FSU struggled a bit on offense for the entire game. Seegars was the only Broncos to finish in double digits and he led the team with ten rebounds.
Will Brown finished with nine points and nine rebounds. Darion Dixon had eight points and rebounds.
Both teams were 33.3% in field goals, but Fayetteville State was the lesser at the free throw line making 16-of-23 (69.6%) compared to the Rams 10-of-14 (71.4%). The Broncos shot 9-of-15 free throws in the second half.
Robert Colon was also the only Ram to finish in double digits with 20 points scored. The win secured the CIAA Southern Division title for Winston-Salem State.
Fayetteville State will travel to Shaw on Wednesday, February 19 and will host Saint Augustine's on Saturday, February 22. The Broncos retain a one-game lead over Claflin, who has Livingstone and Elizabeth City State left on its schedule. Both victories for FSU will secure the South's No. 3 seed.
Johnson C. Smith University secured the CIAA Southern Division No. 2 seed with a 97-86 win over Livingstone.
