Jalen Seegars (Greensboro, NC) cracked 28 points to help Fayetteville State overcome an early eight-point second half deficit as Fayetteville State defeated Virginia Sate, 83-76, in the VSU Multipurpose Center in Ettrick, Virginia.
The Broncos (13-2 overall) trailed by one (33-32) at the half and fell further behind, 52-44, with 13:16 left in the game. Post-play by
Will Brown (Gresham, SC), who finished with a double-double of ten points and 14 rebounds, closed the gap to four (53-49).
Virginia State (9-5 overall) continued to maintain the lead until a layup by
Ty McClain (Goldsboro, NC) with 8:37 left gave FSU a one-point lead. McClain's seventh point of the game led to a 7-0 run and a 63-57 lead.
Darian Dixon's (Bowie, MD) sixth of his game total 12 points helped hold the Trojans at bay, 66-59. The following seven points by Seegars gave FSU its largest lead of the game at 14 (73-59) with 3:51 left.
The Broncos out-rebounded the Trojans, 43-31, and shot better from the floor with 51.8% (29-of-56) compared to VSU's 42.4% (28-of-66).
Lual Daniel Rahama and Antwan Miles led Virginia State with 17 points each. Armond Griebe followed with 15.
Fayetteville State will host Johnson C. Smith on Monday, January 6
th at 7:30 pm in Capel Arena.
