Thompson, Hyman Leads Broncos in 67-42 Blowout over Virginia State

Fayetteville, NC – Sophomore London Thompson (Lumberton, NC) completed another epic performance with a double-double night of 18 points and ten rebounds in Fayetteville State's 67-42 blowout over Virginia State University in conference action in Capel Arena.
 
Thompson's third double-double of the season came from three of eight field goals and 12 of 17 made free throws. She also had four assists and three steals.
 
Senior Katisha Hyman (Chocowinity, NC) was the second highest scorer with 17 points. Aminata Johnson had a dozen points.
 
Natalia Leaks led Virginia State with 17 points and Yazmen Hannah followed with 12.
 
Fayetteville State captured an early 13-4 lead which blossomed to an 18-6 advantage and a 22-13 first quarter score. After a low-scoring second quarter, the Broncos went into the locker room with a 31-20 lead.
 
The Broncos opened the second half with a 10-0 run which led to a 21-point gap (41-20) with 6:04 left in the quarter.
 
The onslaught would continue in the fourth quarter with the Broncos holding its largest lead of 28 points (61-33) with 3:10 left in the game.
 
Fayetteville State made 43.2% (19-44) of its field goals and shot 63.6% (28-44) from the free throw line. Virginia State struggled with 26.4% (14-53) of its field goals made.
 
The Broncos will travel to Winston-Salem, NC on Saturday for a divisional matchup with the Rams.
