Fayetteville State Broncos Overshadows Bowie State, 70-58, in Rematch

Fayetteville, NC – "Aren't you tired of losing to Bowie State?" was the first statement on the Broncos locker room chalkboard.

The response to that statement was a 70-58 stomping in Capel Arena that improved Fayetteville State's record to 15-3 overall and dropped Bowie State to 10-8.

Mark Burton (Tokyo, Japan) was back on his game with his neon shoes with a game-high 21 points with 8-of-13 field goals for which three of them were threes. Jalen Seegars (Greensboro, NC) played the supporting role with 14 points and seven rebounds. Darian Dixon had 11 points.

Burton's layup at 7:18 led to a 12-2 Bronco run that gave FSU a 12-point lead (35-23) at the 2:31 mark before going into the locker room at halftime with a 38-29 lead.

Following the break, Fayetteville State pushed that lead to 15 (46-31) in the first three minutes of the second half. The lead got as high as 19 (59-40) when Will Brown (Gresham, SC) dunked with 9:28 left in the game. Brown finished the game with a total of five points and four blocks. The Broncos maintained a double-digit lead for the rest of the game.

Bowie State's Juwan Smith was held to 15 points while Saiquan Jamison finished with a double-double of 13 points and ten boards.

The Broncos shot 50% (27-of-54) from the floor to the Bulldogs 37.1% (23-of-62)

Fayetteville State will host Carver College on Saturday (Jan. 18) at 12 noon in Capel Arena.
