Broncos Sweep the Blue Bears 3-0 for Season Home-Opener

Fayetteville State plays well when it controls the tempo of play. The Broncos were consistent in tonight's 3-0 sweep over Livingstone (25-16, 25-16, and 25-13) for its home-opener in Capel Arena and second consecutive conference victory. FSU improves to 2-4 overall and 2-0 in conference and divisional play.

Although Head Coach Reeshemah Johnson believed her team started out a little shaky, the Broncos did not waste any time jumping on the Blue Bears with attacks at the net and defensive coverage.

Livingstone had a strong start, jumping out in the first set, but was unable to find any momentum to push past 15 points. Tied at 11-11, FSU advanced off the Blue Bears' errors. Livingstone finished with a total of 24 attack errors where Fayetteville State managed to only have nine.

Three Broncos finished with seven kills a piece; Casandra Watson, Charli Daniels, and Chynna Hunt.  Assists leaders came from Nakia McKinnie (18) and Journee Hartsfield (9) while  Jasmine Jacinto led with nine digs.

Watson added that they started off a little slow because of nerves but they focused on picking each other and playing their team ball. She had the most zero attacks (19) and finished with two service aces and assisted blocks and three digs.

"I'm just thankful for my passers and my setters because without them, I wouldn't have those kills," says Watson when asked about her offensive effort.

"Whenever you have such a quick start it puts a target on your back," said Head Coach Johnson. "I want my girls to understand that. Whoever we play will be coming with their best because their aim will be to beat us."

The Broncos are now 2-0 in the Southern Division with games coming up against Bowie State University and Elizabeth City State University at the CIAA Roundup this weekend in Orangeburg, SC.
