Greensboro, N.C. – The Fayetteville State Women's Cross Country team finished first out of four NCAA Division II teams competing in the Greensboro Cross Country Invitational Friday, September 28
th. The men's team finished fourth out of five.
The Bronco women scored a total of 23 points with the average run time at 22:13 in the 5-kilometer race. Five Broncos finished in the top 15.
Mercy Chemutai (Eldoret, Kenya) finished 5
th overall in a time of 20:43:1 for a total of two points. She averaged 6:40:1 per mile.
Charisma McKoy (Montego Bay, Jamaica) did not trail too far behind, finishing 9
th with a time of 22:14:3. McKoy scored three points and averaged 7:09:4 per mile.
Sierra Beasley finished 11
th,
Mylasia Pratt (Laurinburg, NC) finished 13
th,
Carisha Leonard (Nashville, NC) finished 14
th, and
Grace Petty (Wake Forest, NC) finished 15
th.
Charles Pumbu (Raleigh, NC) led the Bronco men in the 8-kilometer race with an average mile of 6:07:7 and a total time of 30:27:8. Charles finished 20
th and gained six points.
Jaylaan Poe (Laurinburg, NC) finished in 33:23:3 for 18 points while
Kevin Williamson (Augusta, GA) scored 19 points with a time of 33:35:9.
Fayetteville State will compete in the Great American HBCU Challenge on Saturday, October 5
th in Cary, NC.
