Fayetteville NC – Fayetteville State accomplished what it set out to do and that was get the run-game back on track. The Broncos defeated Lincoln (Pa.) 51-6 in Luther Nick Jerald Stadium Saturday night to extend its win-record to 2-1 overall. The Lions drop to 0-3 and was held score-less until 1:16 left in the game. FSU held a 29-0 at halftime.
Fayetteville State amassed 514 yards of total offense with an almost even split between the run and passing game. FSU rushed for 276 yards and threw for 238. Lincoln (Pa.) had 278 yards of total offense with 234 yards coming from pass plays.
Richard Latimer (Charlotte, NC) got his first start of the season calling signals and had one heck of a performance. He completed 10 of his 21 passes for 206 yards with three touchdowns.
Wide Receiver
Tyeous Sharpe (Winston-Salem, NC) switched roles during the Broncos first touchdown of the game. Taking a backward pitch from Latimer, Sharpe threw a 13-yard pass to
Jayden Maynor with 11:10 on the clock in the first quarter.
Nigel Peele (Greensboro, NC) and
Chrishon Springs (Winston-Salem, NC) sacked Emmitt Hunt in the endzone for a defensive safety for a 9-0 lead with 9:32 left in the first.
The Broncos scored two touchdowns prior to the halftime intermission.
Darnell Walker (Charlotte, NC) ran in for a two-yard score and
Johnnie Glaspie scampered in from 24 yards with 1:36 left in the second quarter.
Tyeous Sharpe opened the second half with another touchdown at the 13:08 mark of the third. This time Sharpe was on the receiving end of a Latimer pass for a 28-yards score.
Stevie Green (Washington, NC) scored his first touchdown of the season with 11 minutes left in the third quarter with one-yard walk-in. He was back to his old self with 16 rushes for 128 yards.
Brandon Person-Boyd (Greensboro, NC) hauled in a 39-yard pass from Latimer for a score in the third quarter and
Andre Wilson threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Antoine Wade with 9:01 left in game.
Lincoln (Pa.) scored its only touchdown with a little over a minute left in the game. Emmitt Hunt threw a 60-yard pass to Ricardo Patterson.
Fayetteville State will play in a televised game next weekend when the Broncos travel to Rocky Mount, NC for the Down East Viking Football Classic against Elizabeth City State University.
