Raleigh, NC – The Fayetteville State women's cross-country team finished third out of five teams competing in the NC State Adidas (Non-D1) Cross Country meet Friday, September 20 at the WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, NC. The men's squad finished seventh.
The Bronco women scored a total of 74 points to trail the Bull City Track Club and the NC State Club Track team in the 5-kilometer race.
Mercy Chemutai (Eldoret, Kenya) finished 12
th overall in a time of 20:22.1 for a total of 10 points. She averaged 6:33.3 per mile.
Nelly Kandie (Eldoret, Kenya) was not far behind collecting 12 points (14
th) with a 20:39.6 finish.
Aleena Cruz (Raleigh, NC) held a pace that was one-second behind her front two runners. She finished in 20:40.9 for 13 points.
Carisha Leonard (Nashville, NC) rounded out the top 20 at 21:18.8 for 17 points.
Charisma McKoy (Montego Bay, Jamaica) crossed the finish line in 22:06.7 to close out the Bronco scoring positions with 22 points.
Charles Pumba (Raleigh, NC) led the Bronco men in the 5-kilometer race with an average mile 5:41.3 and a total time of 17:40.4. His 32
nd position was worth 20 points.
Quinton Blake finished in 19:46.9 for 31 points while
Jaylaan Poe (Laurinburg, NC) scored 33 points with a time of 20:02. Joshua Broetjes ran in his first race of the season and topped out at 20:42.5. Joshua Alonzo had the fifth scoring spot with a time of 21:51.3 and 40 points.
Fayetteville State will compete in the Greensboro Invitational on Saturday, September 28 in Greensboro, NC.
