Fayetteville, NC – The Fayetteville State softball team suffered a doubleheader loss to UNC Pembroke 5-0 and 2-0 Wednesday afternoon at the Lamon Street Park in Fayetteville, N.C. The Braves (11-19 overall) completed a four-game season series sweep with the twinbill victories.
Nikki Brown (Independence, KY) led the Broncos in the second game with two of Fayetteville State's (3-19 overall) four hits in the second game.
The Broncos defense stepped up to the challenge in the second game and defended eight hits made by the Braves in seven innings played. UNC Pembroke opened the game with two runs when Rendi Wetherington scored an unearned run after a failed pickoff. UNCP scored its second run a play later.
Alexandria White (Fayetteville, NC) hit a double in one of her three at bats and stole a base.
In the first game, it took four innings before the first run of the game was scored. Jordan Adcox hit a homerun over left field for a two-run RBI. Wetherington hit a homer of her own in the sixth inning and Adcox crossed home for a second time after Tatum Brummitt doubled into the right field. UNCP scored its fifth run of the game with an unearned run in the seventh inning.
Fayetteville State will travel to Winston-Salem, NC on Saturday, March 30
th for its first CIAA Southern Division doubleheader against Winston-Salem State.
