FSU Wins First in an 11-0 Victory Over Lincoln Pa.

Elizabeth City, N.C. – On the second day of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Softball Roundup (hosted by Elizabeth City State University) Fayetteville State captured its first win on the season with an 11-0 victory over Lincoln (Pa.) University at the South Park Complex.

Alex White and Nicole Brown had 3 RBIs each while Ashlyn Zook pitched 5 innings with 7 strikeouts and 1 hit allowed and one batter walked. The Preseason All-CIAA Designated Player Madison Mendoza added another homerun to her tally.

The Broncos improved to 1-14 overall and 1-2 in conference play with the win. Lincoln (Pa.) dropped to 2-12 overall.

Brown doubled to left field in the Broncos first at-bat for a 2-run RBI and later crossed home herself when Ashlyn Zook was walked with bases loaded.

Mendoza scored an RBI off a sacrifice fly to right field in the second inning that allowed Alex White to tag up and beat the throw home. On the next play, Mallory Carpenter beat the chances to cross home for a 5-0 lead on a ground out play made by the Lions' third baseman.

Fayetteville State scored a run in the third and fourth innings but put the game away early in the top of the fifth inning.

In her third at-bat, White knocked a double into the left field that allowed Timmya Williams to score. White continued to run the base off the hit to score a 2-run RBI. This is when Madison Mendoza hit her homerun over the right center field fence for a 10-0 lead over the Lions. Nicole Brown recorded the final RBI when her single through the left side allowed Cheyene Ingram to come home.

Lincoln (Pa.) recorded its only hit of the game in the bottom of the fourth after 11 batters had failed to reach first base. Jemiah Groce singled up the middle for the hit.

Ashlyn Zook, who also won her first game of the season in the circle, walked one batter in the bottom of the fifth inning before the game ended early due to the mercy rule.

Fayetteville State will take on the Hawks of Chowan in its fourth game of the CIAA Round-up.
