Orangeburg, S.C. – Fayetteville State's women's basketball is on a roll with the latest 69-55 victory over Claflin University in Orangeburg, S.C.
Four Broncos finished with double-digit scoring with
Shantel Bennett (Sanford, N.C.) leading the way with 14 points from six-of-six shooting.
Darria Hewitt (Riverside, Calif.) knocked down a double-double with a dozen points and a team high 11 rebounds.
Jasmine Covington (Goldsboro, N.C.) contributed 13 points and
Katisha Hyman (Chocowinity, N.C.) finished with ten.
Claflin (12-11 overall, 8-7 CIAA, and 4-5 in the Division) kept the game close in the first quarter trailing 17-11. Fayetteville State (14-7, 9-4, 6-1) opened the second quarter with an 8-0 run and continued to outscore the Panthers 18-9 for a 38-18 halftime advantage.
Fayetteville State out-rebounded the Panthers 43-37 with 32 of them coming from the defensive end. The Broncos dished out 15 assists and had 8 blocked shots.
Ashley Fields led Claflin with a game-high 19 points and 14 rebounds.
The Broncos will return to Capel Arena for its 10
th annual Ball in Pink game on Saturday, February 9
th with a 1:00 p.m. contest against Johnson C. Smith University.
