Joshua Bryant scored a three-point play with a layup and free throw with three seconds left in the game to give Fayetteville State a one-point lead (67-66) over Claflin.
Shortly after eclipsing the 1000-point plateau, Triston Thompson drove coast-to-coast to hit a floater in the paint to lift the Panthers over the Broncos 68-67 before the final buzzer.
Fayetteville State drops to 4-16 overall and 3-10 in the CIAA.
Claflin (9-12, 7-8 CIAA) overcame a Bronco 37-29 halftime lead, which reached its highest mark of 13 (45-32) in the second half, to take a seven-point (58-51) lead of its own with 7:18 left in the game.
Joshua Bryant led the effort with 18 points and Jaquel Richmond finished with 14.
Austin Lawton led the game for the Panthers with 21 points. Thompson finished with 15 and Danny Brown with 13.
Fayetteville State will host Johnson C. Smith on Saturday, February 9
th in a 4:00 p.m. televised game in Capel Arena. FSU's 10
th Annual Ball in Pink activities will be held immediately following the women's 1:00 p.m. game.
