Raleigh, N.C. – Fayetteville State was strictly business against Saint Augustine's in its Emery Gymnasium.
The Broncos (19-7 overall, 14-4 CIAA) will enter the CIAA Basketball Tournament with the Southern Division's No 1 Seed and an 11-1 record after defeating the Falcons 77-49 in the regular season finale. Fayetteville State has won back-to-back divisional crowns in Head Coach
Serena King-Coleman's three years at the helm. FSU has won the division for a total of 13 times.
Shantel Bennett (Sanford, N.C.) led the game with a total of 19 points as
Katisha Hyman was one point behind with 18.
The Broncos played a close first quarter with a 16-13 score. FSU controlled the second quarter, holding Saint Augustine's (3-22 overall, 2-10 Div.) to nine points in the period on its way to a 32-22 halftime lead. In the third quarter, Fayetteville State scored one-point shy of what it did in the entire first half with 31 points. The lead had swelled to 24 by the end of the quarter. The Broncos continued its development through the fourth quarter, with a focus on the upcoming tournament, and held a 32-point lead with 2:36 left in the game.
Bianca Igwe was the only Falcon to score in double-digits with 14 points. She also contributed a dozen rebounds.
The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) will release a final bracket with game times on Sunday morning.
