Winston-Salem, N.C. – Fayetteville State suffers from a slow start with a 66-50 loss to Winston-Salem State in the C.E. Gaines Center.
WSSU (10-14 overall; 5-11 CIAA) jumped to a quick 19-1 lead before the Broncos' (6-17 overall; 5-11 CIAA)
Markeise Crutchfield (Durham, N.C.) scored the first field goal with 11:35 left in the first half.
FSU shot 4 of 29 from the field to trail 33-17 at halftime.
Xavier Williams (Fayetteville, N.C.) led the team for the half with five points after sinking three perfect free throws and a basket.
JaQuel Richmond (Greensboro, N.C.), who led FSU with 15 points, had four points prior to intermission.
Denzel Hosch (Shelby, N.C.), who played six minutes in the first, scored all of his 10 points in the second half with 12 minutes of play.
Fayetteville State matched the Rams point-for-point in the second half with 33 points scored but the damage from the first half sealed the Broncos fate.
William Crandall led the game for the Rams with 19 points. Robert Colon had 18.
The Broncos will host Shaw University on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. FSU seniors will be acknowledged prior to the game.
