Fayetteville, NC – The Fayetteville State women had their mind set on making a statement than extending its win streak to eight games in a row.
The 16-7 overall Broncos (11-4 CIAA, 8-1 South) defeated Livingstone 89-71 tonight in Capel Arena to drop the Blue Bears to 7-17 and 4-10 in conference play.
Katisha Hyman (Chocowinity, N.C.) led the Broncos with 25 points while
Yakima Clifton (Durham, NC) topped a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Shantel Bennett finished with 13 points and
Darria Hewitt, who started at the forward position banked in 10.

Brittany Drumgoole nailed a three-pointer with three seconds left to give the Broncos a 71-68 win over the Blue Bears.
Fayetteville State is now 8-1 in the division with its only loss to Johnson C. Smith. The Broncos have a half a game lead over Winston-Salem State for the CIAA Southern Division Title. FSU will have the No. 1 seed in the South after defeating its final three opponents of WSSU, Shaw, and St. Augustine's.
The Broncos made 53.1% of its shots (34-64) and shot 77.3% in free throws. FSU outrebounded the Blue Bears 47 to 21 and had 27 second-chance points with 19 offensive rebounds.
Fayetteville State had a great start to open tonight's game. Although both teams traded baskets early in the game, after a 12-12 tie, FSU sparked a 13-1 run to put some distance between the two scores and ended the quarter with a 28-17. Livingstone scoring drought went a basket that was made with 5:57 left in the period to their last field goal that was scored with 32 seconds left in the quarter. Between that time three free throws were made.
The Blue Bears made another run of it in the second quarter outscoring Fayetteville State 20-16 but went into the locker rooms at intermission trailing 44-37.
Fayetteville State put its foot on the gas in the fourth quarter after winning the third 24-21. The Broncos closed out the game with a 14-2 run that ended with the final buzzer.
Daisa Harris led the game for the Blue Bears with 26 points. Adel Allen had a 17-point performance and Darra Walker turned in 13 points.
Fayetteville State will prepare for a Saturday showdown in the C.E. Gaines Center on the campus of Winston-Salem State University. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
