Thompson’s Career High Helps FSU Blow Past Livingstone 83-63

Fayetteville, NC – Fayetteville State had a little rust to knock off after an eight-day layoff due to final exams. The Broncos improve 2-0 in CIAA play (3-5 overall) after defeating Livingstone 83-63 in Capel Arena Monday night.  

Alyssa Thompson (Charlotte, NC) had a night to remember with a career-best performance of 19 points in 30 minutes. The Broncos had a solid game of balance scoring with Shantel Bennett (Sanford, NC) producing 16 points, Katisha Hyman (Chocowinity, NC) 15 points and Aminata Johnson (Durham, NC) with 14. Two FSU guards finished with double-digit rebounds with London Thompson grabbing 11 and Jada Faison holding on to ten.

It took a minute for Fayetteville State to find its shot in the first quarter as Livingstone (3-4 overall; 1-2 CIAA) opened the game with a 13-2 run in the first five minutes and closed out the quarter with a 21-13 lead.

A 10-3 run would give FSU its first lead (23-22) of the game with 7:32 left in the second quarter and a 14-2 run would eventually lead to a 41-34 halftime advantage.

Daijah Turner led the game for the Blue Bears with 22 points. Victoria Onozie finished with 16 points and ten rebounds while Darra Walker turned in ten points. Livingstone struggled from beyond the arc with 2-of-21 three-pointers made.

Fayetteville State shot 52.3% (34-65) from the field with a perfect 5-of-5 from 3-point land. The Broncos also made 71.4% (10-14) of its free throws.

The Broncos will travel to Richmond, Virginia on Thursday, December 12th for a rematch with conference leading Virginia Union. Fayetteville State dropped a close 65-60 on November 23rd with an opportunity to pull off an upset.
