Lincoln, Pa. – Fayetteville State, who was recently upgraded to No. 4 in the D2SIDA Atlantic Region Poll, went into an overtime period at Lincoln (2-11 overall, 0-4 CIAA) and came out victorious, 100-95.
Jalen Seegars (Greensboro, NC) scored a career high 39 points from 50% shooting from the floor (12 of 24) with five threes and a game-high tying nine rebounds.
Raymon Pratt (Greensboro, NC) also had a career night with 21 points.
Fayetteville State (11-1, 4-1 CIAA) trailed at the half 41-37 and tied the game at 43 following a 6-2 run in the opening 1:24 of the second half. The Broncos captured its first lead of game (49-48) at the 14:56 mark but continued to lag the Lions until another tie (71-71) with 4:25 left in regulation. FSU led 75-72 with 2:42 left but the game set tied (78-78) once again with a little over a minute left and at 80 at the end of regulation.
Back-to-back layups by Seegars and a pair of free throws by
Mark Burton (Tokyo, Japan), who finished with 16 points, gave FSU an 86-80 lead in overtime.
Isaiah Vinson (Fayetteville, NC) helped FSU reach its largest lead of the game (94-86) with back-to-back threes on his way to 17 points in the game.
Fayetteville State was 8-of-8 in free throws in the final 44 seconds of the overtime period to preserve the victory.
Bernard Lightsey led the Lions effort with 32 points and Brendon Wagner netted 20. Jordan Camper had 16 points and Zahrion Blue finished with 13.
Fayetteville State will travel to Coach D'Alessio former coaching grounds of Bowie State, where he won a CIAA Championship on Saturday, December 21.
