FSU Broncos Secure CIAA Southern Division with a 31-17 Win Over WSSU

Winston-Salem, NC -- Fayetteville State Football (8-2 overall, 6-1 CIAA) is headed to its third consecutive CIAA Championship game after a comeback, 31-17, victory over Winston-Salem State (4-6 overall, 3-4 CIAA) for the Southern Division Title.
 
Fayetteville State University will face the Northern Division leader Bowie State University in the championship game on Saturday, November 16th in Salem, Virginia. The televised game will kick-off at 3:05 p.m.
 
After trailing 14-10 at halftime, Stevie Green (Washington, NC) tied the game at 17-17 with 1:49 left in the third quarter with his 41st career rushing touchdown. Green finished the game with a net 122 yards rushing to increase his season total to 1,071 yards. For his current career count, Green has 4,426 yards rushing.
 
Darnell Walker (junior - Charlotte, NC) had back-to-back touchdowns to secure the victory for the Broncos. He rushed five times in the fourth quarter for 34 yards. With 10:59 left in the game, he carried the ball in from ten yards out and from three yards out with 8:56 left.
 
Richard Latimer completed 8-of-12 passes for 117 yards and a touchdown. Brandon Person-Boyd was on the receiving end of the score with a 28-yard reception to give FSU a 7-0 lead at the 10:13 mark in the first quarter.
 
Fayetteville State finished with 335 yards of total offense compared to Winston-Salem State's 108 yards.
 
Jawaad Evans and Quran Blount led the defense with six tackles. Blount had an assisted tackle for a loss and a fumble recovery. Keyshawn James finished with five tackles and a sack for a loss of 14 yards. In total, he had 2.5 tackles for a loss of 28 yards.
 
After Elton Shawn Andrew kicked a 20-yard field goal to give FSU a 10-0 lead for the first quarter, Winston-Salem State scored 17 unanswered points. The Rams capitalized on Bronco miscues to score on a 36-yard drive and a 68-yard drive before halftime. The Rams led 17-10 with 3:28 left in the third quarter off a 28-yard field goal.
