Fayetteville, NC – Fayetteville State put on a spectacular home-opening show in an 89-69 rout of Lincoln Pa. Thursday (Nov. 21) night in the Capel Arena. All five starters scored in double-figures in front of jeering fans.
Mark Burton and
Isaiah Vinson scored 18 points each while
Jalen Seegars finished the game with 17 points.
Will Brown netted a double-double of 13 points and ten rebounds.
Fayetteville State (4-0 overall) held a slight 40-35 edge at the half behind
Jalen Seegars' dozen points and a dunk by Brown. Lincoln (1-5 overall) trailed by three with 26 seconds left in the first half and would only see a single digit deficit of nine (61-52) with 11:10 left in the game.
The Broncos opened the second half with an 8-2 run for a 48-37 lead. A jumper by Burton at the 10:39 mark followed by a Vinson dunk would lead to a 6-0 run (67-52) and a 15-point advantage. Another dunk by Brown and a free-throw by Darion Dixon, who finished with a dozen points, would give Fayetteville State's its largest lead of the game at 19 points (84-65) with a little over two minutes left.
Zahrion Blue led the Lions with 16 points and Keynante Williams scored 11 as LUPA shot 41.7% (25 of 60) from the floor compared to the Broncos 55% (33 of 60). FSU also had an impressive 55.6% (15 of 27) from beyond the arc and 72.7% (8 of 11) from the charity stripe. The Lions were 5-of-13 (38.5%) in three-pointers and 14-of-21 (66.7%) in free throws.
Fayetteville State will play host to Virginia Union in its first double-header of the season on Saturday, November 23
