Fayetteville, NC – The Fayetteville State women's cross-country team finished fifth at the Methodist Monarch Cross Country Challenge, while the men were ninth.
The women collected 99 points to trail host and winner Methodist (35 points), Louisburg (55 points), Emory & Henry (93 points) and Winston-Salem State (94 points).
Aleena Cruz (Raleigh, NC) did what she has done all in her freshman campaign. She was the first Bronco to cross the line earning four points with a fifth-place finish in a 6-kilometer time of 28:51.97.
The other scoring Broncos were Mylasia Pratt [Laurinburg, NC] (32:01.13 – 14 points), Destiny Stevons [ Durham, NC] (32:45.13 – 20 points), Carisha Leonard [Rocky Mount, NC] (34:00.15 – 29 points), and Micah Pierce [Greensboro, NC] (34:53.10 – 32 points).
Nine teams and 77 runners competed on the 6K course that stretched throughout the Methodist University campus.
The Broncos, who had an average time of 32:30.30 fared better than conference opponents Saint Augustine's and Claflin but was five points behind rival WSSU.
Richard Prudente-Bernal (Fayetteville, NC) led the men's squad with 16 points and a 17th-place finish in an 8-kilometer time of 36:34.77. FSU was ninth out of nine teams competing. Sixty-four runners completed the course.
Jaylaan Poe (Laurinburg, NC) was 28th in a time of 36:58.19 and earned 26 points. Rahsaan Cotton (Kinston, NC) finished in a time of 46:37.21 for 44 points. Collin Nordan (Albemarle, NC) scored 47 points with a finishing time of 49:18.07.
Weather permitting, Fayetteville State will compete in the NC State Adidas XC Invite on Friday at the Wake Med Soccer Complex in Cary, NC.
