Fayetteville, NC – The Fayetteville State Department of Athletics will offer FREE admission during its "Community Month" for the next five home basketball games in Capel Arena to celebrate the New Year.
The first event of Community Month will feature the Broncos women's basketball team, who is 5-4 overall, and Augusta University on Wednesday, January 2
nd at 2 p.m. FSU is on a two-game win-streak after defeating Virginia State (51-41) and Elizabeth City State (69-59) to open CIAA play with a 2-1 record. The Broncos are sporting a 2-0 record in Capel Arena. The Jaguars are 1-7 overall and are on a five-game losing streak. Augusta is 1-3 when playing on the road.
Aminata Johnson (Durham, NC) leads FSU with 96 points scored for an average of 10.7 points per game. Three other Broncos are averaging nine points or better through nine games.
Brittany Drumgoole (Kinston, NC) has a 9.6 average in points and a team high 20 assists and 18 steals.
Katisha Hyman (Chocowinity, NC) is averaging 9.5 ppg.
Yakima Clifton (Durham, NC) has a team-high average of 8.3 rebounds per game and an average of 9.3 points per game. Clifton also has the most blocks (10) among her teammates.
The men's basketball team will host Elizabeth City State in a non-conference contest on Saturday, January 5
th at 12 noon. The FREE game will feature a rejuvenated Bronco squad that recently defeated Division I UNC Asheville, 80-63. In the previous matchup against Elizabeth City State (Dec. 17
th), the Vikings pulled off a 62-57 victory in the last minute of play. ECSU is on a three-game win-streak.
Nakia Rivers (Charlotte, NC) leads the Broncos with 13.9 points per game. Long range shooter
Denzell Hosch (Shelby, NC) has an average of 11.9 points per game with 20 three-points made in nine games.
Raymon Pratt (Greensboro, NC) is another go-to scorer with 9.4 points a game. Last season's standout
Joshua Bryant (Fayetteville, NC) has made a return to the program. Last year, "JB" averaged 15.1 points per game. Also new to the program is D-I transfer
JaQuel Richmond (Greensboro, NC), who scored 20 points against UNC Asheville.
The second game of Saturday's double header will feature the women against Salem University. The Tigers are currently 2-10 with a three-game slip in wins and 1-6 record on the road.
The Broncos will return to conference play on Thursday, January 10
th against CIAA cross divisional opponent Lincoln University of Pennsylvania. The women will host the Lions (6-8 overall; 1-3 CIAA) at 5:30 p.m. while the men tip at 7:30 p.m. Former Trinity Christian Academy standout Cameron Campbell will return to Fayetteville to lead the 10-4 Tigers (4-0 in the CIAA) against the Broncos.
The final event of "Community Month" and FREE basketball games in Capel Arena will be on Saturday, January 12
th. The Broncos will host Virginia Union University in a 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. doubleheader. The Lady Panthers are currently 9-1 overall and 1-1 against the CIAA Southern Division. The VUU men's team is 5-5 and 2-1 against the South.
