
Salem, Va. – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) held separate awards luncheon for Fayetteville State University and Bowie State University before Saturday's Championship Football Game. Along with the Southern Division Title Trophy, the Broncos collected an additional 14 awards.
Head Coach Richard Hayes received an astounding round of applause near the conclusion of the ceremony as he was named this season's Coach of the Year. Hayes, who is in his third season at the helm of Broncos, led FSU to back-to-back CIAA Championship appearances and Southern Division Titles. FSU is 6-2 overall and 5-1 in conference play.
Sophomore
Brandon Smith (Red Springs, NC, Hoke County HS) was called to the awards area twice to receive the Special Teams Player of the Year Award and the All-CIAA First Team Award as a Kick Returner.
On offense, senior
Tyreek Bailey (Hampton, VA, Phoebus HS) made First Team honors as an offensive line. On defense, Sophomore
Elvin De La Rosa (Winston-Salem, NC, Parkland HS) is on the First Team as a defensive back as well as fellow sophomore
Tyeous Sharpe (Winston-Salem, NC, Parkland HS), who is a punt returner.
Broncos who were named to the All-CIAA Second Team were
Quincy Dickens (Washington, DC, Friendship Academy HS) (OL),
Stevie Green (Washington, NC, Washington HS) (RB), and punter
Jacob Young (Spencer, NC, North Rowan HS). Honorable Mention awardees were tight end
Christopher Brooks (Walkertown, NC, Walkertown HS), offensive lineman
Jaylan Galloway (Hope Mills, NC, South View HS), defensive lineman
Jalen Cousar (Charlotte, NC, Butler HS), and linebacker
Nigel Peele (Greensboro, NC, James B. Dudley HS).
Young was also honored on the All-CIAA Rookie Team
