Wingate, N.C. – Wingate (2-2 overall) crashed the boards and ran away with a 90-68 victory over Fayetteville State (0-2 overall) in Wingate, N.C.
The Broncos found its groove in the first half with
Nakia Rivers shooting a hot hand of 18 points, but watched Wingate drive the floor in the final seconds for a 45-44 halftime lead. Rivers would finish as the leading scorer of the game with 20 points.
Will Brown finished with a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds.
Wingate held a 50-34 advantage in rebounds with 31 defensive boards to the Broncos 11 offensive grabs. The Bulldogs had 14 second chance points, 18 points off turnovers, and 24 fast break points.
The Bulldogs took advantage of a 7-0 run to jump ahead 56-49 with 15:34 left in the game. Wingate would end the game on a 10-0 run in the final three minutes of the game.
FSU shot 33.3% (20-60) from the field and made 10-of-26 three-pointers. In the first half, the Broncos were making 14 of 33 shots but struggled with six made baskets from 27 attempts (22.22%) in the second half.
Fayetteville State will host Allen University on Tuesday in its home opener on November 20
th. Tipoff is at 7:30 pm following the women's contest against UNC Pembroke.
