Kutztown, Pa. – The Fayetteville State women's basketball program is now 1-1 on the season after defeating host Kutztown, 61-59, in the CIAA/PSAC Basketball Challenge.
Aminata Johnson poured in a game-high 21 points and a game-winning buzzer beater.
Kutztown (0-2 Overall) held a 34-31 lead at halftime but both teams battled through six lead changes and two tied scores in the fourth period.
The Broncos lost a one-point lead with 21 seconds left in the game on a layup and a free throw.
Brittany Drumgoole, who finished with 16 points made a layup with seven seconds left to tie the game at 59. After a Kutztown turnover and foul, Johnson nailed the game-winning layup before time expired in regulation.
Johnson was 10-of-13 in field goal shooting and had a team-high seven rebounds. Drumgoole had five assists and four steals to go along with her double-digit scoring.
Fayetteville State led with 46 points in the paint to Kutztown's 24.
The Broncos will host Coker College in the Felton J. Capel Arena on Wednesday, November 14
